Private Matters Psychotherapy is a group practice located in the heart of Burlington, ON. All of our therapists are registered mental health professionals with ample experience in helping people uncover what they are dealing with, develop effective coping skills, and work towards personalized client-oriented goals. At the heart of the therapy offered at PMPTherapy lies a non-judgemental attitude, a caring environment, and professionalism.
Our therapists each have their own specialization and work with different therapeutic modalities. As such, we help a wide range of people including kids, teens, adults, families and couples. Most of the sessions offered at PMPTherapy will use an eclectic approach, combining therapeutic techniques from different therapies, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Mindfulness Therapy, Social Skills Training, Spiritual Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and more.
We also offer workshops and group therapy. A warm and compassionate group environment allows people facing similar issues to come together to learn about themselves and to realize that they are not alone. It provides a chance to identify with others who are in different stages of the healing process and to learn from their experiences.

I work with individual, teens, and families who experience stress and discomfort due to anxiety, depression, a traumatic experience, relationship issues, and self-esteem issues gain a better understanding of what they are going through and teach them coping skills to make long-lasting and positive changes so they can start living a healthy and fulfilling life.
I specialize in working with
• Emergency Responders (i.e. Police Officers, Fire Fighters, Paramedics, and ER personnel) • Anxiety Disorders
My passion for working with First Responders and trauma victims stems from two very important and personal life lessons. The first one is my own traumatic experience and shopping for “the perfect therapist” to help me battle my inner demons. I tried many different paths, have been guinea-pigged on by an intern experimenting with her own self-taught therapy, and finally ended at the doorstep of my last therapist. Her enthusiasm for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and the effect it had on me finally gave me the chance to make peace with my past and live my life to its full potential.
The second one stems from my working experiences as (a) a socio-therapist at a forensic psychiatric hospital coaching rehabilitated detainees with a mental health disorder back to society, and (b) as a trauma therapist for the United Nations in Haiti. For this last one, myself and a team of other mental health professionals were responsible for the welfare of more than twelve thousand UN personnel, including civilians, UN police, UN firefighters, and UN military personnel.
In my sessions I use an eclectic approach combining Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, Narrative Therapy and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy.
In my professional career, I obtained both my Bachelor in Psychology, my first Master in Cognitive Psychology and my second Master in Clinical Psychology from the University of Leiden in The Netherlands. I am registered with the Ontario Association of Consultants, Counsellors, Psychometrists and Psychotherapists (OACCPP) and the College of Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), and have worked as a therapist and counsellor for various mental health hospitals and organizations. I have many years of experience helping individuals overcome their fears and find their true potential by dealing with their trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, self-esteem and assertiveness issues, obsessive-compulsive behaviours and stress.
Mental Health Counsellor
I am a Registered Social Worker and Mental Health Counsellor and I help children, youth, adolescents and families develop strategies to manage and cope with personal and social distress.
My areas of specialization are
• Stress and anxiety
• Relationship issues
• Parent-teen conflict
In my sessions I utilize a combination of techniques including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), trauma-focused therapy, and Solution Focused Therapy. My experiences in the school board, outpatient mental health, and within child welfare have given me the tools to effectively work with the above populations.
My passion for helping people stems from my own personal experiences. Over the years, I have utilized these experiences to help others overcome their personal, social, and occupational challenges.
Throughout my struggle, I was fortunate enough to have a great support network to help me recognize what is important in life. It is my belief that having emotional support is integral in the healing process.
As a professional, I have observed a lack of services for children, youth and adolescents with mental health issue in the Halton Region. I would like to fill in this gap by welcoming you to contact me to talk about your worries.
One of my colleagues once told me, “Without hope, we don’t get out of bed in the morning.” I am sharing this with you because I believe that hope is the foundation of our healing.
Clinical Social Worker/Therapist
I work with individuals, couples, and families to help them be their best selves. Difficult, hurtful and negative experiences happen to most people in life, and I see my role as being oneto help you to cope with the negative event or situation and lessen its impact on various aspects of your life.
I specialize in working with:
• Trauma, past and recent
• Domestic Violence
• Relationship Issues
In my sessions, I meet you where you are in your life. The sessions are your time to use as you see fit and to discuss what is most relevant for you.I utilize a variety of therapeutic interventions including Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and trauma informed therapy. Together, we will examine how your experiences have shaped your beliefs andthoughts about yourself, others, and the world in which you live.
I graduated from the University of Toronto in 2010 with a Master's Degree in Social Work after having completed my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at the University of Waterloo in 2006. Since this time, I have worked in various corners of Social Work with a major focus on clinical work and counselling. Though my experiences, both personal and professional, I have come to understand the importance of taking care of yourself and I believe that counselling is a big part of this. In our busy lives today, we often list ourselves at the bottom of the priority list and ignore how various life events, even from years past, continue to impact on who we are. I look forward to working with you.
