Mikaela is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) in training.
During my undergrad, I worked as a government personal support worker. I provided personal and emotional care to seniors needing assistance in hospitals, long-term care homes and also their personal homes. Through this experience, my ability to listen and provide support grew. I learned about the importance of person-centred care and approaching health through a holistic lens.
When working with multiple age groups that require physical and emotional support, my capacity for empathy grew, and respect for these individuals became fundamental to connecting with my clients. My passion evolved, and I opened my own business to support individuals focusing on cognitive stimulation and the goal of improving the lives of individuals with dementia.
During the summer months, I return to my childhood camp to volunteer or work when the opportunity arises. The camp was known for providing space for young students to grow into the individuals they wish to be. When working at this facility, I am reminded of the importance of connection and communication and that individuals can be unstoppable when proper supports are in place.
I went to McMaster University and graduated in the Spring of 2018 with an Honours degree in Gerontology and Health Studies. I also received a certificate in Applied Behaviour Analysis through McMaster University. I am currently enrolled at Yorkville University in the Masters of Psychotherapy program.

Celebrating papa's birthday
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my eight-year-old rescue dog Bruce. My fiancée and I adopted him and couldn't be happier to give him a home. Some of my favourite things are enjoying a morning coffee and listening to my favourite artists. Growing up as a competitive dancer, I enjoy music and often go to small venues to watch underground artists. However, classic artists such as Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald will always have my heart.
